Computer School

A computer school was opened near Canning station. 22 students enrolled for computer basics course spanned for 3 months. The school is now approved by Indian Government vocation training program (VTP). The students will get certificates from the Indian Government after they pass the required exam.

We have 5 Dell Windows XP notebook computers and 5 desktop computers with high speed broadband internet connection. We are also equipped with a printer, scanner and fax all-in-one unit. Software available are Microsoft Office (Word, Powerpoint, Excel, Access), Adobe Photoshop (to edit pictures), MS Movie Maker (to edit videos), MS Expression web (to edit websites), WsFTP (to upload websites) and more.

School Building - Opening

Opening of Utsa Manush Bhaban. About 175 people participated on this occassion. Everyone in the village was very excited. Children participated in a few one-act and group  performances. Everyone had a nice lunch and very happy.

The Bhavan is a pretty large room about 65'x15' to host tutoring of about 50 children of class I through class VII in different batches from Monday through Friday.

School Building - Under Construction

JSS School Building construction started in November 2012. The first phase was finished in January 2013.
It is a large pretty area about 65 feet by 15 feet. As of January 2013, the total cost was about Rs. 1.50 Lacs (anout $3,000). Future expanstion may cost another Rs. 50 Thousand Lacs (about $1,000).

Tutoring Children

We started tutoring 37 children (class I through VI) from our neighborhood under the banner - Asoke Bandopadhya Pothan Pathan Kendra since May 2012. We also take care of their health by conducting regular medical checkups and providing them with appropriate medicines.

Snake Map of India

It took us a long time to collect pictures and collect data of 33 most common snakes all over India to finally publish one of a kind 2 feet by 3 feet poster calendar. A press conference was held at Kolkata Press Club on march 9, 2012.Now the goal is to distribute this map to rural public health centers, schools, libraries and relevant places so the villagers in India can be saved from snakebite deaths. It is estimated that about 40 to 50 thousand people die from snakebites in India. Poster calendar (2'x3') of snake map of India: snake map of India

Meet the People Behind JSS

The children of JSS school performed a drama. Some well wishers spoke to the children and the parents. They encouraged the students to do extra-curriculum activities along with their studies. Dr. Samar Roy checked the health of the students.
